"Averaged 85.3 QSOs per hour or 1.43 QSOs per minute
for every minute I operated."  WOW!  That's outstanding.

I had other commitments, so it was a part-time effort.  However, I had
a lot of fun!  I had 42 sections by the end of the first hour.

ARRL SS SSB - 2010-11-20 2100Z to 2010-11-22 0300Z - 657 QSOs
W5WZ - Off Times >= 30 Minutes

2010-11-20 21:00Z - 2010-11-20 21:00Z     00:01  (1 mins)   (Start late)
2010-11-21 01:59Z - 2010-11-21 05:04Z     03:06  (186 mins)
2010-11-21 05:27Z - 2010-11-21 21:21Z     15:55  (955 mins)

Total Time Off 22:23  (1343 mins)
Total Time On 07:37  (457 mins)

During the times I was on the air, I had some pretty high rates, so it made
for a fun time for me! Averaged 85.3 QSOs per hour or 1.43 QSOs per minute
for every minute I operated.  I loaned my MK2R+ to the team at KG5VK, so I
didn't have ability to use a voice keyer - everything was done live mic.

ARRL SS SSB - 2010-11-20 2100Z to 2010-11-22 0300Z - 657 QSOs
W5WZ Max Rates:

2010-11-20 2111Z - 4.0 per minute  (1 minute(s)), 240 per hour by W5WZ
2010-11-20 2117Z - 2.9 per minute  (10 minute(s)), 174 per hour by W5WZ
2010-11-20 2159Z - 2.2 per minute  (60 minute(s)), 131 per hour by W5WZ

Gotta remember to check the "Running" box on N1MM!  Pressing F1 for voice
keyer function does it automatically.  That is a N1MM requirement for the
QSO to be logged as a 'run' qso.

Comments:

Much, much appreciation goes to my angel of a wife, Lorraine, for putting up
with us for this past weekend.  Since the early summer, she has undergone 6
rounds of chemo for BC and is currently enduring a 25 day protocol treatment
of
radiation (and soon nearing the end of that).  Yet she was gracious enough
to
host us for this contest and keep us fed with a big Sunday meal.  She
certainly
deserves our special thanks.

Re the contest, it seems like the bands were not as good to us as they were
last year.  Compared to last year, our score is about the same.  We had only
23
more raw Qs this year compared to last (1739 vs 1716) before log checking.

15M is never good to us for the US due to our location.  20M folded early
and
so we spent more time on 40M and 80M.  Our 80M Qs were higher than last
year,
attributable to more time spent there, plus we a have a better antenna
system
now vs then.

Early on, I was beginning to wonder if we were going to make a sweep.  We
racked up 78 sections farily quickly, only lacking SC and PR.  Where was SC?
Finally one called in Satruday evening while we were running on 40M at
0332z.
We didn't get PR until Sunday morning at 1329z when the S&P station bagged
NP4G
on 20M.

I can understand the delay for PR, but SC?  Regarding SC, it was like when
you
need something, you go looking and looking, never to seem to find it - only
when you do, you pounce on it quickly and you're soooo happy you got it at
the
price you paid - only to then find a lot more of them available - in better
condition and and better prices than what you initally paid - that's our SC
story for this contest.. We went on to work 9 more of them.  Thankfully we
have
at least 2 of every section in case of log issues.

We also couldn't believe how strong some of the Q-stations were.. A few
broke
though some mini-pileups we had going.  Congrats guys!  And also many, many
thanks to those stations that had the "extreme patience of a Saint" to hang
in
there for our requests for fills and/or repeats.  You guys are a better
person
than I am in that regard.

As I said earlier, we were hoping for a really better score, but 'twas not
going to happen.  After looking over the log, I should move the station to
MS.
LA in no longer a "semi-rare" section in SS.  Plus I couldn't believe how
many
ND, MT, SD, VT and NT stations we worked - geez.. In the past, those
sections
were normally hard to find for us.  But this time is was MS.  We only worked
3
MS stations, almost as rare as VI and PR where we got 2 each.

Also interesting and encouraging were the '08 though '10 checks we worked.
Hope the trend continues.

Fortunately, no real equipment malfunctions, except for LP-Rotor on the S&P
station.  Somehow, one of us messed that application up, and messed up some
system files.  I later on had to do a system restore to get it work again.
We
did take a brief, momentary power outage Sunday morning - good thing I put
all
the computers and hardware on UPS systems when I moved the shack to a new
area
above the garage.  Only the ALPHAs kicked out and had to wait the obligatory
3
minutes for them to come back up.

So thanks for all the Qs.  From all of us here at Mardi-Gras world, have a
safe, wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and party-hearty.. We'll be back in
pitching for CQWW this weekend.

73,
Ted
KN5O for Team W5RU

Wow, great scores, guys. Looks like we now have some really good
competition across the state. Lots more activity in every category than
just a few years ago. As Steve, KG5VK recently said, you can't just enter a
contest and automatically expect to get a certificate anymore, you have to
work for it.

Just by the early posts, looks like some great rivalry brewing in the SO
HP category between W5WZ, who is sometimes time challenged, and K5ENS, with
some new aluminum and amp. Hey. I want to get in on some of that!

For KC5WA to make over 200Q's running QRP is fantastic. I have seen times
when 10-15 Q's would easily win this category - but no more. If you want to
beat RC, you'd better bring you "A" game.

I had fun as part of the multi op effort at KG5VK's, and can't wait to see
the W5RU team post their score. Ted's crew was kicking behind and taking
names - and the rest of the exchange, too.

Congrats to all the competitors, hope you had fun enjoying the competition
and camaraderie.  Congrats to the Louisiana Contest Club for raising
awareness and helping to increase activity across the state.

    GO LCC!

73,
Mark, K5ER

Hi Ted and team,
Congratulations on the FB score. Knew you guys were doing good,
but didn't know how good. Enjoyed saying "HI" to Dallas when I worked you
from KG5VK. Thanks for the competition and take care.

have fun!

Mark, K5ER

Attaboy! Great performances posted this contesting weekend to all the LCC
stations and also the operators behind the scenes.  I sure was disappointed
not to be able to join the KG5VK team.

I'm excited to see such enthusiasm by all the LCC members.  I could not have
imagined the synergy we are building together in the past 2.5 years since
the LCC became a tangible concept and then a real contest club.

K5ENS - awesome!  Looks like your newly installed tower and antenna are
working!

KC5WA - QRP op -- guts and determination!

KG5VK & team -- Respectable!  Are you going to share the gumbo?

Ted KN5O - it appears that the higher atmospheric pressure down there at sea
level makes your contest signals go further, louder and faster!  For a bunch
of 'OMs', or even 'OFs'  you guys are posting healthy scores and getting fat
too!

By now ya'll have probably figured out that I really, really like running
rate.  Just for fun, I took the 3830 claimed score posting and pulled the
SOAB HP category into Excel.  I added a formula to calculate averaged QSOs
per hour based on reported operating time, and then resorted that new list
by Q/Hr.  Here's the result:
