Marshall,

You might find Sherwood's receiver performance test results interesting.

Hi Keith.....The K3 is a fine box, of that there is no doubt. The only
boxes that might compete are the Icom 7800 and the Flex radio 5000. The
Flex radios don't look like a radio and that puts me off.....a lot. But
they have a really superior band scope and noise blanker. They too have
"stone wall" filters....because it is all in the software.

So far, I cannot get myself wrapped around the computer interface for a
radio rather than the radio itself. I have purchased one of the new Flex
1500's...it puts out 5W and should be perfect for driving transverters.
Since I am a VHF contester, that is really an important point. I will just
have to see how the software radio pans out.....

Speaking of VHF contesting, the CQ WW VHF contest is this weekend. It
begins at 1800Z = 1PM CDST on Sat and ends at 2100Z = 4PM on Sunday. This
contest is 6M and 2M only....if possible, it would be great if I could get a
few QSOs from the LA ops. Please just drop by and work us on 6M and
2M......

Thanks in advance....73 Marshall K5QE

Maybe you could gain by the use of Elecraft K3's....

The reviews state....

There is no transceiver in the amateur marketplace that has the close-in
dynamic range performance of the K3 with narrow roofing filters installed,
and most aren't close to the K3.

Also noted was.

Radios used at last weeks WRTC2010 competition:

"lists that Scott Robbins,
the Ex-Product Manager of the Ten Tec Orion transceiver
product line, brought with him, for his personal use...

...An Elecraft K3!

That's like Col. Sanders going to Chick-Fil-A for lunch! Or
Papa John ordering Pizza Hut for Dinner!

And, contesting Jedi and CQ WW Champion Multi Multi station
owner Tim Duffy, who operates the defacto "NASCAR Factory
Team" for Icom (complete with "Team ICOM" uniforms), and who
apears in advertisements touting the superior performance of
the Icom 7XXX line of transceivers, brought with him for his
personal use...

...An Elecraft K3!

That's like Dale Earnhardt bringing a Toyota Camry to drive
in the Daytona 500!

The list is sort of like discovering that Bill Gates uses
an Apple Mac Book running OS/X to do Microsoft presentations
with!

Now, we all know that the invitees to this party could
afford to bring *anything* they wanted to bring. Im also
sure that any rig manufacturer would have been happy to
supply them with anything they wanted, just for the
asking...

But they both showed up with K3's. So did most of the
competitors!

Why?"....

Doesn't take much thought,

Keith, K5ENS
