From April 23, 2022 (UTC), through May 1, 2020 (UTC), the Northeast Louisiana Amateur Radio Club will be sponsoring a special event station N5L. This event is to commemorate the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, with stations operating in several parishes throughout Louisiana.

How do I participate as a W5L operator from my home, mobile or
portable station?

First, request a login to the online operator scheduling tool:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdVfTB3Slcgkc3hlMByvSw_zw6eQMKjZ3M5osEAjDtnpn0Kew/viewform

You will be notified by email when a login has been set up for you.

Once you have your login, visit the scheduling page at: https://nelarc.org/2022-N5L/ and log in. With
the scheduling tool you can reserve day/time/band/mode slots in which you want to operate. Please
note that time slots are 2 hours each.

The online Scheduling Tool puts you in charge of your operating!

When you reserve slots, please follow these guidelines:
Reserving a slot is a commitment to be on the air. Please do your best to keep your commitment. If
you are unable to operate during a slot that you have reserved, please CANCEL that reservation.
You may operate only AFTER you have reserved a slot, and then only during the time reserved and
on the band and mode reserved.
We encourage reserving slots as far in advance as possible. This provides those wishing to have a
QSO with N5L the best opportunity to know when and where to listen for N5L.
You may reserve as many slots as you want; however, please do not request more than 2
consecutive slots on the same band and mode. We want others to have an opportunity to reserve
slots.
If you come to the end of a reserved time slot and want to continue operating, simply return to the
scheduling tool, and refresh your browser. If the next slot is unreserved, you may then reserve it
and continue operating.
If you suddenly have time to operate and have not yet reserved a slot, simply return to the
scheduling tool, and refresh your browser. If the desired slot is unreserved, you may then reserve it
and then begin operating.
At the start and end of your reserved operating time, watch the clock. Be punctual. The operator
who follows you will be eager to start operating.

N5L Operator Guidelines

Logs and Log Submission
Log all contacts with a logging program capable of exporting an ADIF file of your results. A
couple of suggested programs are N1MM Logger+ or N3FJP Amateur Contact Log. If you use
N1MM Logger+ you can use the DXPedition contest template which contains all the information
you would need in an ADIF file. When you are finished with your time slot operation, email the
ADIF file of those contacts to W5L@nelarc.org. Be sure YOUR callsign is referenced in the email.
Operating
Always be courteous, remembering that you are representing hams in the State of Louisiana.
You will identify as N5L. You are still bound to your license privileges.
We recommend finding an open frequency and calling CQ. For this event, N5L is the hunted!
Work and log all callers, including dupes. We encourage you to log their name and state.
Direct everyone to N5L on QRZ.com for QSL instructions suggested operating frequencies and a
link to the online Operating Schedule.
Become familiar with the history of the Louisiana Purchase, and share bits and pieces of it
during your QSOs.
Get on the air and have fun! You set the pace at which you want to work QSOs.
It’s ok to have a QSO longer than a contest/DX style exchange, but please be aware of callers
waiting to work you. The goal is to give everyone a chance to have a QSO with N5L
Be aware that DX stations, QRP stations, mobile stations, and portable stations will be in the mix
of callers. Do your best to evenly distribute QSOs to everyone.
Self-spotting is OK, and we encourage it!
Always operate in the general portions of the bands. Digital modes in the proper sub-bands.
Operations will be centered around these frequencies, but remember no one owns a frequency.
Be courteous and yield to nets and QSOs in progress. In those cases, find another frequency.
CW SSB
3.545 MHz 3.850 MHz
7.045 MHz 7.250 MHz
14.045 MHz 14.250 MHz
18.085 MHz 18.150 MHz
21.045 MHz 21.250 MHz
28.045 MHz 28.400 MHz
