My planned M/2 effort disintegrated right before my<br>eyes.<br> My regular Ops all had something come up.. So decided to do it alone. My<br>friend David, W5XU, wanted to get some experience with N1MM in preparation<br>for<br>his upcoming DXpedition to South Sandwich and South Georgia Islands. He ran<br>40M SOSB(A) and I did 80M. He had a lot of fun... Me, not so much...<br><br>Besides struggling with computer latency problems (not yet sure why) I<br>noticed<br>my 4SQ just didn't have its regular punch.. And when switching directions, I<br>had SWR variations and had to retune the amp each time - definitely not<br>normal.<br> It was too dark to do anything about it, so waited to morning. Discovered<br>one<br>vertical had lost its capacitance hat and resonated way high. Fixed it with<br>W5XU's help and voila', back to its old self. But then Saturday nite was a<br>disappointment in the way of mult production. Plus I was so tired, I<br>stopped a<br>little after midnite and headed to bed. Never did stay up either evening to<br>catch the JA/Pacific runs.<br><br>Fell short of my goal to make DXCC and 30 zones - but I attribute that to me<br>not just being up for the contest. So I just decided to quit and hope for<br>next<br>year.
