Upon reviewing the minutes from last meeting, there was a request that was
tabled, in order to gain the viewpoint of a larger audience. We were asked to
consider donating $100 (possibly yearly) to the Louisiana Memorial Scholarship
Fund. <br>
<br>
If passed, the donation comes from YOUR dues, so the board wanted to allow the
membership to discuss and vote on whether to budget for it.<br>
<br>
My opinion:<br>
<br>
While I agree with the basis of the scholarship, and I vote in the affirmative
each year at my <u>local</u> <u>general</u> <u>interest</u> <u>club</u>, I had
some concerns regarding LCC's participation. I went back and re-read our
constitution and by-laws, and found the following:<br>

font-family:Verdana'>It shall be our purpose to promote radio knowledge,
fraternalism and individual operating efficiency, ... <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>with a focus on contesting.<br>
<br>
</span></b>When an applicant is awarded with the yearly scholarship, there is
no mention of from who(m) the funds for that year came from, <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>so they may not even know the LCC exists</span></i>.
So, while the basic idea is good, and it is also a "feel good" thing
to do, in my opinion as a charter member of the LCC, it does not fulfill one of
the guidelines that our club was founded on. <br>
<br>
So, would it help a college student? Yes Would it do anything at all to
promote or encourage contesting in <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Louisiana</st1:place></st1:State>?
No.<br>
<br>
For that reason, even though it is a "good cause"(like dozens of
others out there), if I were the deciding vote, I could not support spending
Contest Club funds on this request. At least two others have shared similar
feelings on this matter. <br>
