I've always enjoyed data analysis, sorting, parsing, etc. MS-Excel is
one of my favorite pieces of software. Google Maps/Google Earth is
another favorite.

The SH5 Contest Log Analysis software is really cool, too! I like to
document my ham radio activities on my website W5WZ.com. The site has
become somewhat of my station journal, with most things being made
public, but also a few things private where I can call them up as
needed. SH5 makes it easy to create extensive analytical reports of
contest logs and painlessly upload to a website for
storage/sharing/archiving. I've run the past decade of my contest logs
thru the SH5 software, you can find the results here:

In the recent 2.44 version of SH5, Dmitriy added the KML functions to
display contacts on maps. Way cool! Love it! That got me to thinking,
and led me to attempt something-an animation of the contest log.

I used the SH5 KML file for all QSOs to create a lookup table in
MS-Excel with CALL, LATITUDE, LONGITUDE. Next, I imported the recent
NU1AW/5 log into Excel, and stripped it down to just HISCALL for each
QSO. I retained the correct QSO order of the log, and did a VLOOKUP in
the table created. Finally, with a lot of help searching Google, I
created a HTML file with an API that drops a marker for every QSO in the
log, in the order they were made.

This condenses the 24-hour contest down to 252 seconds. It's very cool
to watch! Enjoy!
