Soapbox:
I hadn't heard of much rare DX planning to be on, so decided to
go un-assisted. Also figured it had been a while, so I went low
power. Other change was, it was time to try out N1MM +. Rtty Round-up
is a fun contest for me, not a killer competition. I knew there would
be a learning curve to the new software, and was sure the rate would
suffer as I became familiar with all the new features, and wanted to
cross that hurdle before a real competitive effort.

If I had been CW or SSB, I would have never seen a problem, but
for rtty, something in my set-up caused N1MM+ some issues. It didn't
matter if I used <Alt-g> or my short-cut key, but anytime I "grabbed"
a call to put into the entry window, it caused the software to think
the radio was keyed, and wouldn't let me change fields or change to
the second radio window unless I actually forced the radio to key up
with a keyboard command. Using the delete <DELSEL> caused the same
hangup. For one who enjoys SO2R, this caused a MAJOR slow-down. I
disabled my shortcut keys, re-wrote my macros, and checked my ptt key
lines, but couldn't figure out what caused the problem. Only about
300 Q's in the first 16 hours - sad. I finally had enough and crashed
for the night. On Sunday, I exported my log from N1MM+, then imported
it into N1MM classic. Aahhh...back to something I know and love.
About 5 hours Sunday afternoon and another 300 Q's and I'm feeling
much better. Even with all the issues, I was up 144 contacts and 15K
points, so that's not too bad.

I am NOT giving up on N1MM+. Now that I'm not in the middle of
a contest, I'll go back and see what is going on. There are several
features that make it really slick, and once I get it to work "my
way", I'm sure I will like it even more than classic.

73,
Mark, K5ER
