I used MFJ that has uhf, does give a reactance. Most of time takes little work to know how to go with antenna on match. But price is good. Randy K5SL

NG5X has one of these as well from Dayton last year.  Says he loves his as well.  Good buy!

I purchased a RigExpert AA-54 earlier this year and love it!  It's handheld and does everything that I need and more.

Not only will it scan any range you need within 0-54 mHz (the less expensive AA-30 goes to 30 mHz), it will scan three different frequency segments at the same time if you were to use it to check a tribander.

With the software that comes with it, you can store graphs on your computer through the built-in USB port and look back to see what your antenna was like at an earlier time, etc.

I did some screenshots of the graphs that are produced by AntScope software that comes with the analyzer when I was converting a KT36 to a KT34.  You can see these graphs here:

LCC members:

I?m curious ? which antenna analyzer do you prefer for portable use?  And why?

My best guess is the MFJ-259 type is the most common, perhaps because of price.

I?ve used MFJ types, and suppose they are ok.  I?ve also used the AIM 4170, which is a great piece of gear, but it is not portable.  If all measurements were from the shack, there is no doubt that I would buy one right away.

I like to know what is happening across a range of frequencies, not just at a single point.  I want to know the sign of j as well as the phase angle.  I need a device that can be used to tune filters/coax stubs.

What is your input?

Here at K1DW the MFJ 259B is used.  Thanks for the interesting  information
on what else is available. Did not know there were so many  others
variations. The RigExpert web is worth a visit.  There are more  recent offerings
by MFJ, anyone have experience with these?
