Tom, I think this is an excellent suggestion for someone getting started!
Thanks for the comment!

I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth since my favorite software was
not mentioned. I sometimes use MMTTY for the Rtty contests but find it a
little awkward to setup. So lately I use MixW for just about all modes and
contests. True it is not what you would call a great contest software but
the more you use it the easier it gets to navigate around in. The nice
thing about it is it's an all-in-one software. Decodes all the popular
mode, has a decent cw decoder and on par with MMTTY for decoding RTTY. It
is not free ware but it does have a free trial period and above average
group support. After contests I export the logs to eqf software (win-eqf).
All these programs will run on Win 98. I have the K1EL winkeyer which I use
only on win-eqf which is my HF DX setup. I tried Writelog even paid the
price but found it far too difficult to use compared to the above mentioned
software. Scott, take your time and investigate all the tips before you
decide which is best for you. My 2 CENTS WORTH> TOM K5UIC
